I am really mad at myself right now for not having a before picture of this little piece. I just completely forget in my excitement to paint. For the before, just imagine the nightstand with no paint, in a medium wood tone. It also had scratches, so imagine scratches.
Well, I got this little mid-century modern nightstand at goodwill. Months ago. Thats why I forgot to take a picture. For the past two months I take the picture right when I get something, but I did not do that with this mid century guy. I adore mid century furniture. It's just cool stuff.
I have been thinking of a color to paint a campaign dresser and campaign desk I have, and wanted something other than grey. I love grey, it is a great neutral color since I sell most my pieces, but I wanted something else. In my mind, a dark grey-blue would look awesome with brass hardware. It is a color I do not usually use, but it is still pretty neutral.
I bought a blue-grey quart of paint this weekend, and the next day at the Habitat for Humanity Store (you should all find a Habitat store in your area!) I found a gallon of a dark blue-grey. I could not pass it up for $5, and I actually like it a little better than the quart I got. It is darker, kind of a midnight blue-grey. Driving home I realized that I could use it on the mid century nightstand I have had for a while. The legs have brass caps on the bottom, and it was going to make them pop! For a while I was thinking I would paint two off-centered stripes going down he drawers, but I will save that for another project. My other idea was to do ombre on the drawers of the nightstand, but I changed my mind on that as well.
I primed the whole piece because the seemed like it was going to absorb a lot of paint. I taped off the brass part on each leg, then gave it 3 coats. I was working the freezing garage, but a tiny heater helped to dry the paint. I let it cure in the house, then waxed everything the next day.
Lately I have been wanting to keep every piece. I wish I owned a house so I could decorate and furnish it. Hopefully in the next 5 years. I need to get out of college first! But I love the color on this piece. Dark blue-grey may be my new go-to color.
