Blue Lagoon Nightstand

I have another nightstand to show you! This piece was given to me by a family friend a couple months ago. They also gave me these chairs that I redid. Before it was a light, blonde wood color with a funky crackle finish. (Don't mind all of the cardboard. I was painting inside and needed to protect things from splatter!)

The whole thing got sanded and then wiped down. I bought the paint this weekend because I had wanted a bright royal-ish blue… but I ended up with this. For some reason I always seem to like a color on the paint chip, then when I get it mixed is was not exactly what I was expecting. This is definitely brighter and more turquoise than I thought, but I like to use bright colors sometimes, so I went with it.

After 3 coats, I let the paint cure. I usually use wax to seal my pieces, but I used water based poly on this. I imagine it going in a kids room, or even if not, it will probably get heavy use so I wanted a durable finish on it. I prefer the look of wax since it has a more matte finish, but poly works for this piece. (The poly makes it look gloss even though it was satin finish) I had the hardware left over from something else, so I put it on to spruce up this nightstand.

Here it is all finished. The second picture shows the color the best. It has a slight teal/green undertone to it.

Right now my favorite  pieces to paint are nightstands, This is my second one this week! Check out the bronze nightstand I did two days ago. They are quick to paint because of their size and I like being able to use bright colors once in a while.  What type of furniture is your favorite to paint?

  1. Love the look of the new color. You can notice all the little details now. I don't know if I have a favorite piece of furniture that I like working on more than another, but I'd have to say the end tables I did last year are high on my list. Currently I have been doing chairs, which are fun too. Next up, I'm looking for a couple dressers I can redo for a couple 4 year olds which allows me to be really creative.

  2. Hi, the night table looks great. My DIL is into the turquoise so I'm showing her this piece. Nice re-do.
