A family friend had given me some furniture a while back, and after seeing how it turned out, they asked me to paint a mirror they had. Before it was just rustic wood and needed some sprucing up! The first photo is the picture they sent me. The other is one I took before I started painting. Yes that is a sheep sheet hanging on the closet doors... and my painting cardboard... and a beach towel. I've got to protect the house!
When they came to drop it off they looked at some of the other pieces I had in order to choose a color. It is going in the daughter's room (which has pewter accents) so they decided on dark grey.
This piece was pretty straight forward. I sanded a bit before, but not much. After doing one coat I realized that the mirror rubbed against one of the posts. It was rubbing the paint off, so that side of the frame got sanded and then everything was good! It took about 3 coats of paint since the wood really soaked it up. I also had to make sure all the grooves got paint in them and no raw wood was showing.
Here is the mirror dressed in all grey. I love the lines and style of the piece and think the grey makes it look elegant. Perfect for a girls room! Oh! I realize the pictures are pretty much pictures of my room reflected in the mirror. I don't have a super nice camera where I can focus on one part and all that, so you get to see my dresser. The other thing is sometimes the paint color appears to have a blue-ish undertone. That is due to all the light coming in the window. In person it is just grey.
I'm glad I had the chance to work on this piece! I also got to use grey again... which is one of my favorite colors. My room is pretty much grey, white and blue with bright colors brought in through accessories. Hope everyone has a great week!
